Mount Holyoke College offers a variety of summer math institutes for teachers, coaches, and others interested in the learning and teaching of mathematics. Check out our offerings below:

Summer 2021 Dates

Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) Institutes

Great math teachers possess a combination of a deep conceptual understanding of the mathematics they teach, a strong awareness of how students learn, and knowledge of a wide array of effective teaching practices to support students. Our DMI institutes are designed to strengthen teachers in all three of these areas.

Participants will engage in rich mathematical experiences, analyze student thinking, and explore powerful instructional moves in these highly interactive and transformative institutes. Teachers will leave with more expertise to facilitate student-centered mathematical experiences in their classrooms.

Choose among the following DMI modules we’re offering this summer:

July 5 – 9

Building a System of Tens

Calculating with Whole Numbers and Decimals K-8

July 12 – 16

Making Meaning for Operations

In the Domains of Whole Numbers and Fractions K-8

Developing Mathematical Ideas Facilitator Training

July 19 – 23

The Developing Mathematical Ideas courses are some of the best professional learning for teachers and they were developed right here at Mount Holyoke College. Come learn how to facilitate a DMI course so you can support teachers in your schools and district.

This year we are honored to have Virginia Bastable, one of the authors of the DMI series, and Mike Flynn, the director of the program running our facilitator training. Mike and Virginia’s work has influenced so many great leaders in mathematics education. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity.
