Summer Institutes

“Hands down the best mathematics professional development experience I ever had.”                                                                             – Past Participant

Mount Holyoke College offers a variety of summer math institutes for teachers, coaches, and others interested in the learning and teaching of mathematics. Check out our offerings below:

Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) Institutes

Great math teachers possess a combination of a deep conceptual understanding of the mathematics they teach, a strong awareness of how students learn, and knowledge of a wide array of effective teaching practices to support students. Our DMI institutes are designed to strengthen teachers in all three of these areas.

Participants will engage in rich mathematical experiences, analyze student thinking, and explore powerful instructional moves in these highly interactive and transformative institutes. Teachers will leave with more expertise to facilitate student-centered mathematical experiences in their classrooms.

Choose among the following DMI modules we’re offering this summer:

July 8 – 12

Building a System of Tens:

Calculating with Whole Numbers and Decimals K-8

July 15 – 19

Making Meaning for Operations
